Key Elements: IELTS Technical Essay
ORGANIZE and PLAN what you are going to write. Take 3-5 minutes to do this. Be an EFFECTIVE and EFFICIENT writer. Spelling and grammar take a second position to organization, planning and getting the detail into the essay.
Write your INTRODUCTION and describe what you are going to write about. If you have 2 diagrams, describe what you are going to write about for each in a separate sentence in your introduction.
TIME MANAGEMENT is crucial. Be aware of it. You should be writing 3-4 sentences per paragraph and should limit yourself to 20 minutes for the first essay. Try not to go back and forth describing one chart and than another in the same paragraph. This technique can be quite confusing to both the reader and the writer.
You get penalized if you write less than 150 words. If you write 2 introduction sentences and maintain the 3-4 sentences in each paragraph for 2 paragraphs, you will reach the 150 words. (Try not to write more than 200 words)
Remember: NO conclusions or opinions in the technical essay!!!
