“Such kindness as that which young grass receives from the warm sun cannot be repaid.” The sound of Chinese poetry recital once again echoed through the beautiful campus of Chltralada School. August 12th, the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen of Thailand, Queen Sirikit, is also Mother’s Day in Thailand. From August 6th, the Confucius Classroom at Chltralada School began to carry out a variety of activities in celebration of the occasion and its students expressed their good wishes and paid high tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit by various means in Chinese.
On August 6th, the Secondary School Department led the way in celebrating the festival and kicked off the series of activities. Under the guidance of teachers and volunteers from the Confucius Classroom, the students learned “Mencius' Mother Moved House Three Times”, an ancient Chinese story about a mother, in both Chinese and Thai. They performed the song “Mother’s Kiss” which they had prepared a long time for the occasion; it touched each and every one of the audience deeply. Afterwards, they showed a greeting banner in yellow and blue, the traditional colors of the school, so as to express their love for Her Majesty the Queen and their mothers. Finally, the activity reached its climax in the chorus of the wish “Many happy returns of this auspicious day for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit”. Following the activity, the classroom also awarded beautiful wreaths to the students that had made excellent cards for their mothers.
On August 9th, the Primary School Department also held celebrations. Children and their mothers boarded a creative “warm train” and began a special trip. In a festive and happy atmosphere the children learned a great many Chinese words and expressions. As the train was going, Chinese teachers recorded the smiling faces of the children and their mothers with cameras, as well as the cards which they had made together. On the same day the Department of Careers and Technology held a Chinese song contest entitled “Songs for My Dearest Mother”. At the contest 4 selected teams fully demonstrated their Chinese singing skills. The audience was moved deeply by photos of the students with their mothers whilst listening to their melodious songs. The outcome was that a band of sophomores from the vocational secondary school won first place with an affectionate song—“Mother, I Love You”.
The series of activities were well welcomed by teachers, students and their parents. They expressed that the activities had not only helped them to learn more about Chinese language, but had also promoted communication between children and parents. A student from grade 1 of the high school told reporter that he felt very proud to offer hid good wishes to Her Majesty the Queen in Chinese.
