-- Royal Gem Cup” International Chinese Proficiency Competition
Bangkok, August 15th – the 7th “Chinese Bridge -- Royal Gem Cup”International Chinese Proficiency Competition was held at Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University. Over 3,900 contestants from Indonesia, Thailand and many other countries participated in the competition, a historical record. The “Chinese Bridge -- Royal Gem Cup” International Chinese Proficiency Competition was jointly sponsored by Hanban, Thai Romchat Foundation, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University and the Confucius Classroom at Traimit Wittayalai High School in order to provide foreign Chinese learners an opportunity to show off their Chinese proficiency and boost their understanding of Chinese traditional culture.
Important guests, including His Excellency Mr. Kasem Watanachai, Secretary of His Majesty's Principal Private Secretary, Assoc. Prof. Chuangchote Bhuntuvech , Ph.D., President of Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, Ms. Narisara Chavaltanpipat, Deputy Education Minister of Thailand, Korn Dabbaransi, President of Thai-Chinese Friendship Association, Pang Li, Hanban Representative in Thailand, Qiu Ning, First Secretary of the Education Department of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, Zhang Xiangyang, Deputy Director of the Education Commission of Chinese Tianjin Municipality and Master Zhaokun Thongchai, Deputy Abbot of Traimit Witthayaram Temple, all attended the opening ceremony.
His Excellency Mr. Kasem Watanachai looked back on three significances about foreign language learning stated by Premier Zhou Enlai when he visited China some 20 years ago and stressed the importance of Chinese learning for the education of youth and development of Thailand. He also stated the hope that people from all walks of life in Thailand will support Chinese education and launch more Chinese proficiency Competitions. Ms. Pang Li praised the leading role of the Confucius Classroom at Traimit Wittayalai High School in Chinese education in Thailand. She said that Chinese has become a useful international language and that Chinese education will boost the mutual-understanding of the young people of China and Thailand and enhance the two countries’ international influence.
Afterward, students from both countries staged a wonderful performance for guests. The performance begun with a Chinese folk musical instrument ensemble titled “Spring is Coming”. In addition, the Hot Wind art troupe performed dances entitled “Thousand Red” and “Happy Mountain Village”. Also, the Confucius Classroom at Traimit Wittayalai High School staged its 4th Chinese cultural curriculum report back performance. At last, the performance concluded with a chorus of “Auld Lange Syne”.
