Dear betterplace visitors,
by building the first school in Tropang Tree you supported the beginning of another successful story of Sorya. Now we are continuing to expand education in the Rovieng Commune. Together with our partner organization Weitblick www.weitblicker.org we
would like to start the extension of our education activities in autumn this year by building the new Malon Chan School. We are going to add three classrooms to help integrate the high amount of students who want to study with us. On the second floor there are going to be rooms for the volunteers and the Cambodian staff.
The building is priced at 30,000 Euro (US-$ 38,000). Two thirds of the expenses (20,000 Euro) will come from our partners at Weitblick. Sorya will contribute one third of the expenses (10,000 Euro).
We at Sorya have already saved 5,000 Euro. We need your spirit and energy to get the remaining 5,000 Euro! You can support us by buying 25 brick-packets, each 200 Euro worth - and be part of another successful Sorya-story.
Thanks for any help that you can give!!!!!

Since 2002 the German Cambodian SORYA registered association (e.V.) based in Hamburg is working closely together with its sister organisation of SORYA CAMBODIA in implementing development projects at the rural province of Takeo.
The starting point was building the Alysha Chan School in the village of Tropang Sdock. Here, children and youths get the opportunity to attend English classes and to continue one’s studies. At the beginning of 2009 we were on the World Wide Web and established computer classes accordingly – a convincing innovation at an area where 90 percent of the people live on farming.
Today, we are proud having transformed our English-classes from simple teaching vocabulary and grammar into lively Conversional Classes that address actual issues in environment, politics, and society – a unique approach in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Since 2009 a new site is under development. There in Tropang Tree, Sorya will meet new challenges drawing on its experience as well as on its easy and effective organisation.
The village of Tropang Tree is located in the Rovieng commune like Tropang Sdock, though west of Tropang Sdock close to National Road No. 2, to the central market, and to the Slarom High School. Theirs roughly 800 students will benefit from the new school site in particular, because our school in Tropang Sdock is far too distant to attend classes on a regular basis. Thus, we will build another private school on our land in Tropang Tree (we own since 2008). That will be the place where we will implement Sorya’s language and advanced training courses once again and as usual with Sorya, cost-free.
The new school is named after Malo Chan, the six years old nephew of the founder of the Sorya organisation.

Earth Breaking Ceremony started the construction

by Hi-Khan T., created on 12 August 2010 at 04:35 PM

Dear Betterplace-Visitors.

In Germany we have a ceremony, more likely a festivity, called „Erster Spatenstich“ or Ground Breaking Ceremony where notabilities and investors gather to celebrate the start of a construction cutting the first sod with a spade (very traditional) or pushing the button to start an earthmover (sophisticated and high-tec). In Cambodia we conduct the Earth Breaking Ceremony with a monk to show our respect to the Earth and the surrounding and asking for divine protection for the building.

Yeah, following the Earth Breaking Ceremony we got started. Thanks to the dedicated activities of our partner Weitblick (www.weitblicker.org) and contributions of our own the construction of our new school in Tropang Trea started as early as the beginning of August.

Construction steel had been delivered. Our workers are hard working to bend the steel for the foundations and beams. Just now a pile-driving machine is at work to provide secure foundations for the beams. And we make progress every day.... Our team in Cambodia reckons to bring everything under a roof before the rainy season starts! We at Germany keep our finger crossed for our Cambodian team and doing our best to collect the outstanding amount of money for the complete fitout of our new school.

We need your spirit and energy to get the remaining 5,000 Euro, so that the virtual brick-packets at www.betterplace.org become the real walls of our new school. Thanks for any help that you can give!

Keep checking back to see more updates, articles and comments on Sorya’s website Sorya e.V. and Sorya Cambodia on Facebook Soray Cambodia

All the best from Hamburg – awaiting the return of summer.
