BUKIT Mertajam High School has forged an educational linkage with one of Thailand’s premier schools.
The school has inked a bilateral agreement with Dechapattanaya-nukul School in Pattani, which the Thai Education Ministry declared as a world-class institution among the top 500 in Thailand.
Bukit Mertajam High School senior assistant (administration) Rohaya Shaari said the bilateral programme was aimed at fostering cooperation in the learning and teaching of Science, Mathematics, Arts, Technology and Environmental Education.
She said a Thai delegation had proposed the signing of a memorandum of mutual cooperation du-ring their visit to the school in April.
“Since the programme is both educational and beneficial for both schools and countries, we agreed to visit their school on July 5, which is also Decha’s Foundation Day,” she said.
She said the 38-member delegation comprised Penang Educa-tion Department director Ibrahim Mohamad, principal Jamaludin Yaacob, senior assistants, teachers, parent-teacher association representatives and students.
Rohaya said the memorandum was signed by Jamaludin and Dechapattanayanukul director Thanoo Noonnoi and witnessed by Songpol, the Vice-Governor of Pattani, Surasak Insrikrai, the director of Pattani Education Service Area Office, and Ibrahim.
She added that students from both schools performed traditional dances to introduce their different cultures to each other.
A delegation from Dechapattan- ayanukul is scheduled to visit Bukit Mertajam High School in October for a home stay programme.
