The government is selecting college students to participate in a state-run travel and internship program in the U.S., the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said Sunday.
Some 130 students will be selected for the “Work, English Study, Travel” program, which started in August 2008 as part of an agreement between the leaders of two nations.
Participants will attend language courses for four to five months and get an internship opportunity for up to 12 months. Before coming back to Korea, they are also allowed to travel for one month.
Applicants should be students who have studied more than four semesters at a university or two semesters at a two-year vocational college.
Their academic credits and TOEIC grades are considered as well.
Applications will be accepted by Jan. 14 through the ministry’s global internship team at http://west.mest.go.kr.
Roundtrip tickets will be given to all participants. When they are hired as unpaid interns, the South Korean government will shoulder part of their living costs for up to six months.
The ministry will explain about the program at locations across the country, with a Seoul presentation planned on Jan. 6.
