TOEFL is one of the most widely-recognised English language tests, accepted by over 7,500 universities and colleges across 130 countries. Each year thousands of potential international students take the TOEFL exam to support their higher education applications overseas.
The new programme at East Tennessee offers online tutorials for students around the world, who do not need to apply for admission to East Tennessee in order to take the course. All materials are provided online and qualified professors, specialising in the teaching of English as a second or foreign language will be available to students at pre-arranged times.
Participants will receive regular feedback on their performance and have the option to upload and download sound files in order to practice their pronunciation of English words. Lessons are provided in both spoken and written form and will cover areas such as speech organisation, transition usage, identifying rhetorical mode, paraphrasing and so on.The course itself is intended to prepare students for the internet-based TOEFL test, with practice examinations in the online format.
Participants will need to have regular internet access in order to follow the course, which will run for five weeks. The course is currently being offered in a choice of periods:
- January 17th to February 19th 2011
- February 28th to April 2nd 2011
- April 11th to May 14th 2011
The course is priced at US$350. For more information you can email the instructor, Theresa McGarry, at mcgarry@etsu.edu or visit East Tennessee State University’s Office of Professional Development.
