Bangkok - A bus filled with teachers and their family members crashed in northern Thailand early Monday, killing 13 passengers and injuring 17 others, police said.
The bus skidded off a mountain road and tumbled down a 100-metre ridge in Songkwae district in Nan province, Police Lieutenant Colonel Kiatthiyot Suwankhasri said.
'We suspect the driver was going too fast and was unfamiliar with the road,' Kiatthiyot said.
The driver was among the dead. 'The injured suffered broken legs and arms and head wounds,' Kiatthiyot said.
The bus was taking the teachers from Mae Sai in Chiang Rai province to a school in Nan, 600 kilometres north of Bangkok, where they had been reassigned to.
