LBC Senior Deputy Managing Director Mr Sounthone Phommachack and NUOL Vice President Prof. Dr. Somsy Gnophanxay as well as relevant officials of both sides attended the Scholarship Award Ceremony for NUOL students, which was held at the NUOL’s Dongdok campus on Monday, Sept 27.
“Developing education in Laos is very import for the country. To lift the country from the poverty, it is necessary to provide more opportunities to the poor and disadvantaged people to help them gain an access to better education,” said Mr. Sounthone.
He said giving scholarship to students would help lessen tuition burden of their parents and expressed his belief that scholarship awardees would become an important force to drive the socio-economic development process in Laos after they graduate. “If our country has more smart and competent human resources the nation will be developed quickly like Singapore,” said Mr Sounthone.
Vice President Prof. Dr. Somsy said “Developing education is first priority of the Lao government as indicated in strategy of the Ministry of Education.”
LBC said the scholarship is part of the company’s commitment to improving and promoting educational development in the 47 poorest districts of the country.
