Transforming Teaching And Learning Through ICT Optimisation

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council (BDNAC) Executive Secretary, Datin Hjh Khadijah Hj Akbar, in her welcoming note at the International Seminar on 'Transforming Teaching and Learning Through ICT Optimisation', yesterday expressed her belief that participants of the seminar will be able to grasp the knowledge, views, ideas and experiences presented by experts and professionals and incorporate them into their teaching and learning practices.

Held at the Kiulap Plaza Hotel, the seminar saw participation by local teachers from both government and private schools as well as educational staff from overseas that comprised policy makers at educational institutions, academics, educators, and specialists.

"It is hoped that the sub-themes and discussions to be carried out in this one day seminar may benefit all local and international participants, especially those who have similar issues related to the integration of ICT and its role in teaching-learning transformations, management and human resource development 'in ICT-based education, specifically the use of ICT in delivering courses or lessons in a lecture theatre or classroom environment".

The international seminar hosted by Brunei Darussalam was carried out in conjunction with the 13th Governing Board Members meeting of SEAMOLEC and was initiated with a recital of surah al-fatihah and a doa followed by a welcoming note presented by the BDNAC Executive Secretary as well as opening remarks by SEAMOLEC Director, Dr Gatot Hari Priowirjanto, shortly after which the seminar commenced in two parallel sessions.

Parallel Session 1 saw topics such as `ICT-pedagogy integration in teacher training', 'Revisiting the real purposes of learning and rethinking the potentials of ICT in supporting those purposes' and 'Designing online English abbreviation dictionary on tourism'. The topics were presented by Mr Om Setty of Cambodia, Dr Gilbert CW Fung of Brunei Darussalam and Ms Vu Thi Kim Oanh of Vietnam respectively.

Parallel Session 2 saw Professor Dr Rujhan Mustafa of Malaysia, Dr Phonekeo Chanthamaly of Laos and Dr Le Van Thanh of Vietnam, respectively present topics on `The integration of ICT into universities in Malaysia', `Strengthening distance education by integration of IT and the Distance Education Centre at the National University of Laos' and 'Cost-effectiveness of ICT-assisted learning material delivery at ODL providers in Vietnam'.

Parallel session 1 was concluded by Md Dina Mustafa, while parallel session 2 was wrapped up by Dr Tinsiri Siribodhi. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
