The activities will include an exhibition entitled ‘Long Bien: In a City’ which explores the fabric of society in the Long Bien area through innovative photography, film and story telling, and an auction of some of the best contemporary Vietnamese visual artists will take place at the Metropole Hotel. All proceeds from the auction will go to a fund for grants for up and coming young artists in Vietnam.
A competition for the International Young Screen Entrepreneurs Award is also among the events honoring young Vietnamese talent in production, distribution, journalism, marketing, promotion and artistic management. A fashion and design show showcasing work from the best UK and Vietnamese fashion and design students will also be held, as well as the ’Global Citizens’ competition for 65,000 school children across Vietnam that recognises creativity, innovation, team-work and leadership skills, and fosters an international outlook.
“We believe this is a great historic milestone for Hanoi and Hanoians. Inspired by the spirit of the anniversary, our programme will contribute to the magnificent Thang Long-Hanoi Millennium celebrations, said Robin Rickard, the British Council’s Country Director in Vietnam.
“These events will showcase Hanoi as one of the most ancient capitals in Asia and also as a modern city that is dynamic and blessed with natural scenery and historical beauty nurtured by a splendid, unique and enduring culture,” he added.
Operating in over 100 nations and territories, the British Council began in Vietnam in 1993, focusing on education, English language teaching and the arts.
