Thailand's queen taken to Chulalongkorn Hospital...King also arrives

BANGKOK - THAILAND'S queen has been admitted to hospital in Bangkok, a hospital source said on Friday.

Queen Sirikit, the 78-year-old wife of revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej, was taken to King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital late on Thursday, an official at the facility said, asking not to be named.

'She has been admitted to Chulalongkorn Hospital since 1600 GMT (12.00am S'pore time) last night,' the official said.

Her condition was unclear. There was no comment from the Royal Household Bureau.

King Bhumibol, who is the world's longest-reigning monarch and considered a demi-god by many Thais, was seen arriving at the hospital on Friday evening in a wheelchair with royal aides, as hospital staff knelt and bowed in respect.

The king was admitted to Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital in September 2009 for treatment of a respiratory condition, although he has appeared in public several times since. -- AFP
