US$200 million invested into Vietnam-Germany University

The World Bank (WB) has granted a credit worth US$200 million for the Vietnam-Germany University in Ho Chi Minh City to build infrastructure, gradually meeting international standards.

The university was established in 2008 and is the first public school in Vietnam in association with foreign country; its principal is German and it follows the German educational system.

Every year, the university receives assistance of EUR3.3 million from the German government, and the States of Hessen and Baden Wurttemberg.

This academic year it enrolled 200 students and is scheduled to have a capacity of 2,000 students in the future. Courses are taught in both English and German.

The university opened a research centre for transportation, irrigation, energy, urban planning and environmental studies.

Darmstadt and Frankfurt Universities are the main partners of the Vietnam-Germany University.
