The present volume offers a candid and insightful appraisal of the current state of education in Thailand. The general conclusion of this study— that Thailand has failed to make the transmission and production of knowledge the core mission of its educational system— is perhaps not surprising. The extent to which Thai education has failed, on the other hand, is debatable. This question, both a timely and important one, is at the heart of each of the essays that make up this volume.
