Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students in Midwest Thailand and the “Shu Xiang Zhi Yuan” Exhibition for Chinese Teaching Materials
On June, 24th and 25th, the Confucius Institute at Kasetsart University joined hands with Ratwittaya school, Phetchaburi to hold the preliminary round of the 3rd Chinese Bridge- Chinese Proficiency Competition for High School Students and the “Shu Xiang Zhi Yuan” Exhibition for Chinese Teaching Materials in Midwest Thailand.
Madame Chuxi(pinyin) of Phetchaburi Education Bureau, Madame Liang Bing, Chairman of the Chinese School Association, Madame Lai Zhihua, responsible for the Chinese project at the Elementary Education Commission of the Thai Ministry of Education, Dr. Huang Yiguang (pinyin), Chairman of Chinese School Association in Western Thailand, and Dr. Zhou Xirong (pinyin), Chairman of the Directorate at Ratwittaya school were present at the opening ceremony. Over 800 people, including schoolmasters, teachers and students from 15 schools in western Thailand, watched the competition and the exhibition.
Contestants expressed themselves in fluent Chinese and showed off their artistic talents. Their excellent performances garnered warm rounds of applause from the audience. Many students gathered around the Chinese Audio Primer during the exhibition. They seemed to be attracted by the machine-readable primer, listening to Chinese pronunciation from a loudspeaker.
The event, with the aim of bringing the superiority and advantages of the Confucius Institute resources as well as integrating resources with local educational organizations, was another effort of note for the Confucius Institute at Kasetsart University to reach beyond its campus and serve the public. More Chinese learners were able to share the various resources of the institute. The institute has made great efforts in promoting the continuous Chinese educational development of Thailand.
Ratwittaya School, Phetchaburi is a famous Chinese school in Thailand; it has more than 1,100 full-time students and a history spanning 64 years. It has provided a great many outstanding Chinese language personnel for Thailand.
