Description:
World Education is seeking a Program Officer to provide administrative, financial and technical backstopping support to projects in Laos and Thailand and a small new program in Myanmar. In the Lao PDR, projects focus on education, medical assistance, and livelihoods training for war victims and people with disabilities, in addition to a small microfinance project. In Thailand, projects focus on education and psychosocial support for refugees, migrants and IDPs on the Thai/Burma Border. The position is based at World Education headquarters in Boston with occasional travel to Laos and the Thai/Burma Border.
At the Boston office of World Education, the Program Officer (PO) will be housed in the Asia Programs and Special Projects Division and have access to all administrative support systems of the organization. The PO will be considered a full time employee of World Education and will be subject to World Education personnel policies and guidelines. The PO will be eligible for all World Education benefits.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain regular communications between the home office and field office.
- Create budgets, monitor project expenditures, check vouchers, and verify with field office and home office records on a monthly basis.
- Handle personnel issues for expatriates with division management team, accounting and human resources departments.
- Participate in program development, planning and proposal writing as part of the Laos and Thailand teams.
- Assist with preparation and management of documentation, including quarterly reports, project fact sheets, brochures, success stories, and final preparation of proposals.
- Provide technical assistance, and coordinate provision of strategic and technical support for field programs.
- Correspond with, coordinate and provide supervision and assistance to consultants, interns, and volunteers.
- Maintain electronic and hard copies of project files.
- Represent the Asia Programs and Special Projects Division on various committees in the Boston office or with visitors or public who are interested in Laos and Thailand projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree; Master's degree or equivalent experience in a related field preferred.
- Work experience in Asia preferred.
- Strong research, writing and analytical skills.
- Ability to create budgets, conduct pipeline analyses, and design spreadsheets for project management purposes.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel are required.
- Interest in, or experience with, participatory and non-formal education a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in cross-cultural settings.
- Willingness to travel.
- Proven record as a self-starter and team player.
- Well organized and strong attention to detail.
Salary commensurate with experience.
