Job Description
Room to Read is a non-profit international organization whose purpose and goal are to mandatorily provide education opportunity for under-privileged children in the world including Cambodia in the believe that “World Change Starts with Educated Children” and that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty, one child at a time.
Room to Read Cambodia is seeking qualified Cambodia n nationals to fill the following positions:
1. Literacy Program Officer (LPO): 1 position based in Field Office – Siem Reap
2. Literacy Program Associate (LPA): 1 position based in Field Office – Siem Reap -- Literacy Program Officer -- Managing, implementing, and achieving RtR-Kh Reading Program (RP) in target provinces. The position requires LPO to coordinate and carryout all activities of Literacy, including surveying and selection of project sites for implementation, teacher training activities, coaching, demonstrating and supporting to classroom’s teachers; monitoring & supervision and evaluation; and project reporting.
She/he will take initiatives and support Literacy Coordinator to improve RP program interventions including develop/innovate training contents, materials and adopt work approaches to meet with the needs and quality assurance; improve capacity building to program partners, strengthen coordination and collaboration with education officials.
LPO will report to Provincial Manager and technically report to Literacy Coordinator.
-- Literacy Program Associate --
Assist the Literacy Program Officer (LPO) in implementing the Reading Program
S/he will participate in conducting training; coaching, demonstrating and supporting to classroom’s teachers; monitoring & supervision; provide logistical and organizational assistance to the LPO
This position required extensive travels to work with teachers in remote rural schools
The responsibilities will also include monitoring, procuring, organizing logistics for trainings/meetings and preparing books, furniture, and other materials for distribution to RtR’s target schools
LPA will report to the Literacy Program Officer
Jobs Requirement
- Literacy Program Officer
Bachelor or Master degree in Education Development, Pedagogy, Khmer Literature, Social Sciences, or related fields
A minimum of five – eight years professional experience in education sector, especially teaching at primary school
Good knowledge related to education development in Cambodia
Experience in teaching, developing and/or implementing literacy initiatives
Good knowledge in basic project management and budgeting
Work more effectively in problem solving and training/workshop facilitations
Experience in staff supervision, mentoring and coaching
Ability to travel frequently and work with teacher, librarian, and children in rural areas
Good verbal and written communication skills in English and Khmer. Computer literate: MS. Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Literacy Program Associate
Diploma to Bachelor degree in related fields (Teacher Training, Pedagogy, Education Development…etc)
A minimum of three - five years professional experience in education, especially early grades teaching at primary school
Prior experience working with schools, teachers, administrators, government officials and stakeholders
Experience teaching, developing and/or implementing literacy initiatives
Enjoy reading and working with children at community level
Ability to basically communicate in English. Computer literate: MS. Word, Excel, and Outlook
